Privacy Policy
Short version: Prenct is local-first. We do not run developer analytics, ad tracking, or user accounts. Data is sent off-device only when you explicitly enable optional cloud features and choose to send a request.
1) Scope
This policy applies to Prenct on macOS and iOS.
2) Data Stored Locally On Your Device
Prenct stores your workspace data locally in SQLite and local files on your device, including notes, snippets, planner items, tasks, settings, and local conversation history.
~/Library/Application Support/Prenct/
Prenct does not operate a backend that receives this local database.
3) What Prenct Collects
Prenct does not collect personal data to developer-owned servers.
- No telemetry backend: no analytics SDK, no tracking pixels, no ads.
- No accounts: no login, no user profile system.
- No developer-side crash tracking: no crash payloads are sent to Prenct servers.
4) Data That Can Leave Your Device (Only If You Enable It)
4.1 iCloud Sync (Apple CloudKit, Optional)
If you enable iCloud Sync, Prenct sends selected records to your private iCloud container so your own Apple devices can sync. Current synced categories are Notes, Snippets, Pinboard, and Planner items.
Recipient: Apple CloudKit (container: iCloud.com.prenct.prenct).
4.2 Optional Cloud AI Providers
When you choose a cloud provider, data is sent directly from your device to that provider with your API key. Prenct does not proxy AI requests through Prenct servers.
Data categories that may be sent:
- Prompt text you submit
- Conversation context in the active chat
- Audio recordings when you use cloud transcription
- Text content when you use cloud text-to-speech
Recipients and provider policies:
- Anthropic (Claude chat) - Privacy Policy
- OpenAI (chat, TTS, STT) - Privacy Policy
- Groq (chat, STT) - Privacy Policy
- ElevenLabs (TTS, optional STT) - Privacy Policy
- Deepgram (STT) - Privacy Policy
5) Consent Before Sharing Data
Before cloud AI transmission, Prenct requires explicit user consent that identifies:
- what data will be sent,
- which provider will receive it, and
- that provider processing follows the provider's own policy.
Consent can be reviewed or revoked in Settings at any time. Revoking consent stops new transmissions to that provider.
6) Local / Offline Modes
When you use local providers such as Ollama, LM Studio, Apple on-device speech recognition, or system TTS voices, data stays on your device or local network endpoint you control. No cloud AI provider receives that request.
7) How Data Is Collected And Used
Prenct collects data only through app interactions you initiate, such as typing, pasting, importing, recording audio, and pressing actions like Send, Transcribe, or Speak.
Data use is limited to delivering requested app functionality (editing, syncing, AI response generation, transcription, speech output, export/import, and backup). Prenct does not use your data for advertising profiles.
8) API Keys And Transport Security
API keys are stored in your device Keychain. Keys are not hardcoded and are not sent to Prenct servers. Cloud requests are sent over encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections to the selected provider.
Prenct only integrates providers that publish privacy policies, use encrypted transport (HTTPS), and provide a level of protection for personal data that is at least equivalent to that set out in this privacy policy. Prenct requires explicit user opt-in before any data is sent to a third-party provider.
9) Retention And Deletion
- On-device data: retained until you delete it or uninstall the app.
- Local backups: managed on-device and can be deleted by you.
- Third-party processing: retention for cloud requests is controlled by the selected provider's policy.
10) App Store Privacy Disclosures
Prenct's App Store privacy disclosures are configured to match this policy and identify optional third-party processing when cloud AI features are enabled.
